I expect you are in the process of adding all the CSPS stock items
to the site and to price them? Or did I not look in the correct places? |
 |
All stock items are there in detail, including all new items listed in
recent myopendoors bulletins. You just need to click on the Catalogue
number itself to go to that items specific page - navigate through the Stock
Categories options or use the search facility to find an item and all its details. |

Australian RR's do not charge GST at all on any sales of CSPS products nor even
give it a consideration. I question the need to include the 'calculator window'
about GST at all as GST does not appear anywhere on their records for import
or sale. It is not part of that area of the operation of a RR due to the 75%
rule for non-profits. |
 |
The calculator, which only appears on the product (stock item) page, gives you the
CSPS RRP (in US$), plus the exchange rate and its application to get the local sale
price in your local currency. The facility to see prices with GST and/or markup rates
is an optional feature, turned on or off by the user from within the tax page. By
setting the relevant rates to zero, no tax, markup rate or related amount will appear.
These settings are
set by the individual RR to meet their own operational need, and are as flexible as
each individual RR requires. The calculator also allows you to try what if scenarios
by manually adjusting prices and/or rates to see the impact on local currency prices. |
 |
Could you explain why there are three possible tax settings. |
 |
Some countries have three levels of tax rates to apply (the US has Federal, State and Local)
whilst others (with fewer or no levels) might wish to explicitly cater for local costs
(eg CSPS handling charges, import duties, etc) by implementing a standard 'markup' rate
to their sales items. Having three setting options (the labels you asign them are
also customisable) provides the flexability to cater for these varied (and possibly
legal) local requirements.

Why do you show German prices excluding tax, but the calculator includes it? |
 |
If your RR is under a certain turnover limit, you are not
subject to Mehrwertsteuer (VAT) - and you are not required to charge it and not required
to pay it to the Finanzamt. RRs also only pay EUST for larger shipments, so
EUST is actually paid only for a few deliveries and is generally
covered by the ample commission given by the Publishing Society. RRs therefore
generally charge the retail prices as suggested by The
Publishing Society, with no extras.

 |
What is a markup rate, and how do you determine it. |
 |
A markup rate is a regular percentage amount that aims to cover the Boston
handling charge/shipping/insurance plus other 'extras' such as those imposed by
Customs (which occur when the goods arrive into one's country and cannot
be ascertained at the point of ordering). The options for a RR to consider in
determining their own markup rate would be:
Have their Treasurer of Librarian establish a permanent % markup that can be
determined as an average of all orders over a year covering all known or possible
extra charges OR
Establish a permanent % markup for the known Boston per/order charge (i.e. the
regular foreign handling charge of $US15) and absorb the other charges as most RR's already do
